Then it got warm, and the snow went away.

I’ve been turning the camera on when I’m doing my art journal warm up paintings. Since the tripod is on the table, which means the camera is right above where I’m painting, I figure why not? These are fun little pages I do before tackling a more serious painting for the day. It gets my creativity flowing, and it gives me something to upload to my youtube channel. If I get something I like, I can sell prints. So, it’s a win/win/win type of situation.

Thanks to everyone who emailed or left a comment here or on FB about Lola’s passing. We’re doing okay. Big Red Fred has become a studio dog again..he was staying downstairs with Lola because it became impossible for her to climb all the stairs a few months ago. He’s loving all the attention he’s getting. He’s a big ole ham, and showering him with extra love is making things easier on us too. We will miss Lola, but sometimes death is welcoming. She doesn’t have to deal with illness any more..and that’s a good thing.

Sweet Pea is a little nervous since Fred took over her couch, but she wasn’t using it anyway. She likes to be near me, so she has a little kitty bed under my desk, and in the studio.

RIP Lola
Died January 20th, 2014

We never knew her birthday or we would have celebrated it every year, like we do for Sweet Pea. We think she was 12 years old, but we’re not sure. We met her on Valentine’s Day 2009. I called her my little Valentine, of course.

This was the first picture I took of her little face. It was hard to get her to look at me, but when she finally did, I swear she smiled at me. The entire time she was with us, almost 5 years, she battled long and hard with illness. She had chronic bladder stones, which she had surgery for a couple years ago, but it never fixed her. She was on a special diet, until she started to refuse to eat a few weeks ago. We switched her over the meaty dog food in a can, and she seemed to like it. Everything I read about her illness said to feed her meat, so I knew we were doing the right thing, but she was so skinny. 🙁 I fed her Friday night, and she seemed a bit out of it. She was staggering around, and having trouble coming up the steps outside. She spent the weekend in her little bed. She didn’t get up to eat or go outside, so we knew it wouldn’t be long.

She came to us in 2009, with this little bed, and our big red Fred immediately was jealous, and stole it from her.

Is that not ridiculous? Seeing these photos again made me laugh. Fred is too much with the paw out in front of him like that, so he doesn’t fall out of bed. 🙂

She often had only one ear up, and I always accused her of half listening to what I said. 😉

 

lola hates winter

It doesn’t surprise me that she passed away in the winter. She always hated this season, and her little body could never get warm. I used to pile doggy blankets on her, and she’d still look miserable. She finally allowed me to put a heating pad under her. For the longest time, she wouldn’t sleep on one, and I’d find her on the bare floor, beside her bed, shaking and freezing cold because she wouldn’t sleep on a heating pad. Isn’t that just the silliest thing? I’d have it on the lowest setting, and it wasn’t too hot, I checked!! But, there was something about it, she hated..even though she couldn’t even see it. I’d hide it under her blanket. sigh. She certainly had a personality all her own, and I’ll miss her very much.

Goodbye my Valentine. Finally you can rest.

Inspiration for the title comes from Lynn Anderson’s song Rose Garden.

I remember my mother listening to this album on her “record player” when I was a kid. 🙂 She always loved this song, and would sing along. My mother had a beautiful voice, something I didn’t inherit from her, unfortunately. haha

I don’t know why, but the roses in this painting reminded me of my Mom, and then this song just popped into my head out of nowhere. I haven’t heard it in YEARS, but now I have this precious memory to cherish. I had completely forgotten how Mom used to sing along. sigh. I love how sudden flashbacks can bring so much happiness. Hearing this song again, brought a big smile to my face. I miss my mother every day.

I’m so thrilled that Misty Mawn’s class, Full Circle, is starting today. I can barely contain my excitement. I’m going to be spending lots of time doing assignments for the next 12 weeks. I’m sure I’ll be posting some of them here. Misty is one of my very favorite artists, and this is the 4th online class I’ve taken with her. I always learn new stuff, and she is just the sweetest person ever. I just love her..everyone does, and she’s so generous..she doesn’t hold anything back. Each lesson is PACKED full. I’ve never taken a class before like hers, and it’s spoiled me. Other classes don’t compare to hers.
Writing about it has got me even more excited, so I gotta go. I can’t wait to get started.

I’m counting the days until I go back to blogging 3 days a week once 30 paintings in 30 days is over. I don’t ever get tired of painting, but the blogging every day is exhausting, especially since I try to blog more than just a photo of my newest painting. I like linking to music, books, quotes, poems, and things I find online, too. Having those days off in between posts gives me more time to gather and collect.

Yay! It’s the weekend, which means my husband has the day off from the office. I think he’s going to some hiking meetup or something. Convention, maybe? Idk. I don’t remember what it’s called. It’s a guy thing, anyway.
I’ll be painting away in my studio. What’s new, right? 🙂 I had to take care of some personal business over the week, so I feel like I’m a little behind. I hope I catch up fast today, and get a lot done. But, first..breakfast! A bowl of grapes, a banana, and maybe an apple with sunflower seeds on it. Yum!!
