Creating some art is better than not creating any art. If you’re like me, and are serious about making art your career, then my advice is to do something every day to keep moving forward.

Do something. Do anything. As long as it’s art related, it will nudge you along on your creative path. Little steps add up to big steps. This has been my number one “secret” for years.

Show up, even when you don’t feel like it. That’s all there really is to it. Your future self will definitely thank your past self for the time and effort you put in today.

Don’t wait for inspiration.

I just started working with oil pastels..like, less than two weeks ago, I think. I already have finished 30 portraits drawings on watercolor paper, and I’m also filling up my art journal.

My only secret is..after doing computer work all day, I’ve been showing up every night to draw. I’m being highly rewarded for my effort. The number of drawings I’ve made keeps increasing, and I’m learning something new every time I pick up a pastel.

Do I love every drawing I’ve made? Oh, heck no. The odds are not in my favor here, but that’s not the point. Some drawings will be winners, some losers. Some I’ll love, and some will disappoint me greatly. That’s the way it goes.
