5 minute painting
day 2
Work in progress
daily painting: 365 day art project
Day 138
Painted on Dec 2nd, 2017
I took one look at the canvas this morning, and cringed. I know me too well, and I knew I couldn’t continue without doing something about the texture of the canvas. I decided to spread modeling paste over the top of the chalk and pastels. I knew ahead of time that it would smear the pastels and chalk together, and the colors would bleed through the paste. I also knew I’d be able to get a decent photo to show my results for the day, and that I wasn’t going to turn the canvas completely white.
I had just enough time to get it finished in 5 minutes. Tomorrow I will wet sand it to make the surface smooth. It might be all I get done in the time allotted, but we’ll see. This will probably be the only day within the 30 days that I know ahead of time what I’m going to do the next day. The rest of the painting will be done in the moment, and be a surprise, even to me.
At this time, it’s not clear if the painting will be portrait or landscape, in shape, not subject matter. It could go either way. I’ll have to figure it out later. All I can tell you is the size is 18×14 or 14×18 inches, depending on what I decide.
