I painted this one in my art journal, and I liked it so much that I painted 3 more. There will be an 8×10, and 9×12 on canvas panel, and 11×14 on canvas coming soon to my Miz Katie Etsy shop.
I’m not sure what my obsession is with birds lately, but I can’t stop painting them. Mostly chickadees, because they’re my favorite.

This is a little painting that I created for my Aunt Jeanne, who has always been so supportive of me, and my work. I’m very grateful she’s my aunt, and that we share the same name. Her middle name is Jeanne, also, which is what she prefers to go by. 🙂 I won’t tell you her first name because she would kill me (she hates it! shh!). Most people call her Jeannie, which suits her perfectly. Love you, Aunt Jeannie!!
I forgot to tell her this, but the roses under the chickadee are to remind her that spring is just around the corner, and will be here faster than she knows.

Day 3 of 30 in 30
The word I picked for 2015 is share. I chose it as a reminder to myself to get my artwork out there each day, and share what I’m doing on social media. Like a lot of artists, I have a tendency to be a hermit in my studio. I get all into my own head, and the painting I’m working on. I forget the rest of the world exists. When I look outside my window, I often think my life is sooooo boring, all I do is paint all day. What do I have to share, and does anyone care about this silly half finished painting I’m working on? Truth is..I will never know who might be interested in the daily life of an artist like me, if I don’t put myself out there, right? So, I’m opening myself up to making new friends. No more negative self-talk!
That said, I made a new FB page a couple weeks ago, and reactivated my Twitter account. I’m also on Instagram and Pinterest. So let’s see if I can get back into the swing of this thing called social media. If you like my work, and use any of these sites, please follow or like or whatever it takes to keep in touch. It will encourage me to keep posting, and stick to my word of the year. 🙂

Kinda funny story. You might have noticed that I’ve been putting lots of splashes of paint in my paintings. It all started by mistake with this painting. See the red splotches of paint? I accidently dropped paint on the painting, which I didn’t notice it until the paint had dried. My first thought was to paint over it, but then realized the red paint really pops off the canvas. I decided to leave it alone, and I’m glad I did. This acrylic palette knife chickadee painting, Bird Series No 10, is available here. Giclee prints are available here.

This is how real photographers get it done. At least that’s what I was told when I yelled, “What are you doing??!! You’re going to get killed!!!” 😉 Truthfully, we could hear cars coming from about a mile away, and it was dead quiet, except for the wind. He wasn’t in any danger.

Day 8
The weather has turned fall-like. We went from 100F+ for the past 6 or more weeks down to 67F yesterday. I had chills all day, and it was GREAT!!! I had to put a blanket over my office chair because it’s plastic, and freezing cold on my bare legs. I LOVE it. I’m still wearing shorts and a tshirt. I have the window open, and the fan blowing in the nice chilly air, and I’m cold, and sooooo happy.

I know, I’m in the minority, probably, but I would much rather be cold than hot..anytime, any day. If I’m cold, I can bundle up, turn on the space heater, turn on the furnace, put on a hoodie, wear gloves, grab a hat out of the drawer. If I’m hot, I can.. hm..sit here and sweat? Yuck! The older I get, the less I like summer, and being sweaty. I want to move to Alaska, but my husband would be such a baby about the cold and snow, there’s no way. You could say we’re opposites when it comes to agreeing about the weather.
