Dopamine Hit
For the past few months I’ve been doing the dopamine detox that I wrote about back in March. I’ve been slowly but surely getting rid of the toxicity in my life. I decided to create what a dopamine hit feels like in abstract form. It’s one of my favorite abstracts so far.
When I first wrote about dopamine detoxing, I didn’t think I could get through the day without checking Twitter for the latest trending tragedy. The thought of not doom scrolling anymore gave me anxiety. Who would I be without knowing allllll the horrible things the second it happens??? I had no idea at the time.
Well, turns out, I am still me. lol Imagine that! Only this new version of me is no longer feeling extremely sad, anxious, and depressed. I’m still on Twitter for work purposes, but I’m not sitting there for hours anymore scrolling through all the doom and gloom. Since it’s my work account, I don’t follow politics or news, except for my friend, Barack Obama. lol It’s a running joke I have in my head calling him my “friend” or sometimes “bestie” because he has followed me on Twitter for many years now. I still pinch myself in disbelief.
The dopamine detox has been fantastic, and I highly recommend doing one. My focus has returned where it should be – my own small little world, and the things that matter most to me – family, friends, and art. I’m able to feel happiness again when I paint, and that hasn’t happened in a LONG time.
I’m so grateful that I read about dopamine detox, and decided to try it out for myself. It’s changed my life for the better in so many ways.
