I’ve been a collector of Ken’s work for a couple years now. He paints gorgeous landscapes in oils. I found him on eBay, and have been following him there ever since. When I googled his name, I was thrilled to find out PBS interviewed him (video below). Ken also has an Etsy shop, and you can follow him on FB.

About this featured artist series: I pretty much always keep my nose to the grindstone, and rarely look up from my own work. I’m so busy in my studio, who has time for anything else? That’s what I used to think, anyway, but I want to change that a bit, and spend 2017 exploring other artists’ work. My thinking is this.. maybe by understanding what makes other artists tick, I can better understand myself, and why art is so important to me. Tracing the Soul of the Work

I recently rediscovered Will Barnet’s work when I signed up for Misty Mawn‘s Art Entwined class (I was going to link to it, but it looks like she’s no longer offering the class). Ever since then, I knew I had to find out more about him. I started Googling, and reading everything I could get my hands on.

Having grown up in New England, I felt a special bond when I watched Will in the videos above. Now I simply can’t get enough. I’ve become quite obsessed with the dear man, and will continue reading about him long after this post goes live.

He still draws beautifully, and paints every day – written in 2011, before he had passed.

I’m in awe of Romy Owen‘s work. She’s a photographer, who makes amazing pieces of art by printing out her photos, and hand sewing them together. Think about that for a second..she sews paper photographs together to make large pieces of art. I’ve never known anyone who sews paper before. I can’t imagine it’s as forgiving as fabric, and it must tear easily. And, what about crinkles? It can’t be easy, especially once the piece gets large, and harder to handle. 

Another cool thing to note, Romy explains in the video that not only is the front a work of art, but the back is also because you can view all the tread knots, and read her written notes. Amaazzzing!! I hope you take time to watch the video.
