I’ve had a jar of Golden fiber paste on my shelf for years now. When I bought it, I was painting mainly portraits, and fiber paste was a bit too textured for my taste. When I’m painting portraits, I like a smoother surface to paint on. I’ve probably said it a million times, but I don’t like painting directly on canvas. I usually prep my canvas with Golden molding paste or Blick’s modeling paste, and sand it so it’s smooth. Then, I gesso it three coats. It’s a lot of work, but worth it to get the look I prefer.
I’ve been in the mood to paint abstracts lately, and I thought of the fiber paste. What a way to start out with some great texture. No sanding needed, either. You just spread it on, and let dry. I gessoed each one 3 times, as usual. I’m so happy to finally find a good use for the paste. I used the entire jar, and need to buy more.
This is my favorite one, so far. I also painted a couple blue, and green ones similar to this one, which will be available soon. This one is a 16×20, and it’s titled Sun Earth Moon, and it’s available for purchase here.
