This is the large art journal I started working in back in November-ish, which I plan on filling with abstract paintings. Since then, life got super busy, and I haven’t had time to use it, but I thought I’d show you this page I created.

This is one of those paintings which painted itself. I didn’t set out to paint figures, but that’s what I see when I look at this page. I can’t remember what I had in mind as my jumping off point when I started painting this one. Whatever it was got thrown out the window once I noticed figures had formed, especially the middle one. What a surprise! 

This is my favorite page in this large art journal so far. I’m thinking about going in and defining the dress on the right slightly, then I might scan it, and offer a print of it.

It will probably be a while before I’m able to get back to art journaling. I have too many other projects going on atm, but we’ll see.

I hesitate slightly to show the before photo above because people often get upset with me for revising my work. I have no idea why. It strikes me as so odd, but then again, I’ve never thought of my work as being precious. I guess other artists feel differently about their work, so they get offended by my actions.Katie Jeanne Wood - Day 286 Daily painting portrait girl and bird

I’ve contemplated doing away with the before photos altogether, but I like showing the improvements I make, even if it doesn’t seem like an improvement to some people. haha

I made up my mind a looong time ago, I’m not going to keep paintings around that I don’t like, which means I have two options. I can take a painting out back, chop it into tiny bits with an axe, and throw it in a bonfire or I can revise it. I prefer the upcycling option because I’m hippy dippy in my way of thinking. Why rip a page out of my book or ruin a perfectly good canvas when I can paint something I like better over the top?

This is a large 24×30 inch painting I’ve been working on for a while now. It’s actually one I started about 4 years ago, and thought I had finished. I recently took it down off the wall in my living room, and decided it was time to revise it, and offer it for sale.

Anyone who has been in a long term relationship or marriage will relate to the title. You’ve already heard it all from your partner before, but you politely sit through hearing the same old story one more time.

My poor husband knows this all too well. I am notorious for retelling stories. I don’t know why, but my husband generously gives his time to listen to me. Sometimes more words get added, and the tale gets longer, but it’s still the same story in the end. 

Listening to: Harry Styles playlist..gosh, I didn’t expect to like his music. Not at all, but after seeing him do carpool karaoke with James Corden, I had to look him up. I love this album so much. He’s so pretty. I think I might have a wee bit of a crush.
