Mother & Baby Boy
Figure painting print

I’m still going through my high resolution image folders, and finding more paintings I created over the years that I can offer as prints. This painting sold long ago, so it’s not available.

I’m calling these my “Miz Katie” paintings because that was the name of my Etsy shop at the time, and that’s what everyone called me.

Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.

Isn’t it weird that you can look back at old work, and immediately know what you were thinking or feeling at the time you painted it? The mother and baby above, I remember painting in my dining room at the other house. I can even remember exactly where I had the easel set up, and how I had to keep moving it around because the lighting was bad.
This woman doesn’t, and wasn’t supposed to look anything like my mother, but I had her in mind as I was painting it. My mother’s middle name was Rose, and there’s a whole backstory that goes along with this painting.
In a nutshell, a client asked me to paint a woman named Rose – without looking like my mother and without using a reference photo of anyone. This is what the name Rose looked like in my head at that time. I also painted a similar one in oils on canvas, which also sold. This one is my favorite out of the two.
That’s all for today. May you have a lovely, peaceful Tuesday.
