I couldn’t get a really good image with my camera. I picked the best photos, but I’m not happy with them. In reality, the flowers look like candy apples you get at the county fair. I have to resist breaking off a piece, and eating it. Really pretty red.
You also can’t feel the texture through the camera lens. The best I can explain it to you is it feels like soft glass. I don’t believe I’ve ever felt glass that is soft before, and you probably haven’t either, so you’re just gonna have to trust me on this, okay? The flowers look like candy apples, and feel like soft glass. It is best viewed in person with your own eyes.

Why I want to keep going after 30 paintings in 30 days..
Make your mistakes, take your chances, look silly, but keep on going. Don’t freeze up.
Thomas Wolfe
I’ve decided that painting every day and making myself blog is easier than getting artist block, and freezing up. Waaay easier. I’ve gone through artist block a few times, and it’s rough. I’m worse than a bear to live with. Grrrr!! It makes you feel like you’re worthless, washed up, a has been, and you’ll never paint again. The days are dark, and all you do is sit around having a pity party for yourself. I HATE when it happens. I’d do anything to prevent it from happening again, and I’m convinced the way to avoid artist block is to keep pushing on through every single day.
Sure there were days last month when I didn’t want to paint, and certainly didn’t want to blog, but I did it anyway. Doing something even if you don’t feel like it is not only the grownup thing to do, but it makes you keeping stepping ahead, one foot in front of the other. If you keep moving forward, no matter the speed, even if it’s just a tiny painting and a two sentence blog post, at least you’re doing it. You’re not sitting there hating on yourself, right? You’re not stuck in a rut. You can’t beat yourself up because you tried. So, that’s why I’m gonna keep pushing on through every day.
30 paintings in 30 days – September 2014
I’m sorry to see September end. It’s one of my favorite months out of the year, and it passed so quickly. It was a challenging, yet productive month.
Here’s a little recap:
1. I took my art in a direction I’ve wanted to go for a long time. I now have four new series, flowers, birds, landscapes and abstracts painted with palette knives. These will be ongoing series.
2. I opened up a brand new Etsy shop for my palette knife paintings.
3. I was contacted by an art licensing company, and I became a licensed artist. My new work will soon be available worldwide and online in many different shops!!! I’m beyond thrilled.
4. I started and completed 30 paintings in 30 days.

I have good intentions. I make promises to myself every day, but I rarely follow through. Like, I’m sitting here now, and it’s 3am. I promised myself I’d get to bed a little earlier tonight, but did I? No. I also promised myself I wouldn’t eat late at night tonight, but did I? Yes. I had a tossed salad, and cabbage salad, which was divine, and healthy. Still, I let myself down. Being human is hard some days.
One thing I did follow through on was making it to the end of this 30 paintings in 30 day challenge. I made it without missing one day. Woohoo!! Finished, but not done because tomorrow I’ll be posting a collage of all 30/30 paintings. See you then.

Today I listened to News, Politics and Stress radio show. If you get stressed out by reading or watching the news, you might want to give it a listen. It was worth the hour for me, even though it was recorded back in July when the world seemed a little less violent.
What do you listen to or watch while you’re working? Do you know of any good podcasts, art related radio shows or youtube channels? Sadly, I spend more time at my desk each day than I do painting. Editing photos takes a great deal of my time, so I like to have something on while I work. I’m always looking for new stuff. Let me know your favorites in the comments.

A painter should begin every canvas with a wash of black, because all things in nature are dark except where exposed by the light. –Leonardo da Vinci
Kinda funny story..that post I made a couple days ago about challenging myself to blog every day for year? Well, I wrote it just before going to bed one night.. like at 3am. I could barely keep my eyes open at the time, and I didn’t put much thought into the commitment it takes to be a daily blogger.
Now for a little back story, I usually set up my posts up a few days in advance, especially when I’m doing the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. I like to be ready, and prepared. It saves me from going into panic mode if I’m feeling pressed for time. It also gives me a chance to go back in, and edit posts if I change my mind. It usually works out great for me, except when it doesn’t. Oy.
So, I wrote the post, and the next day, reality hit. All I could think about was what am I getting myself into? Blogging every day?? Am I out of my mind??!! I decided I didn’t want to do it. No way. No how. So, I went back in to delete what I wrote, and to write something new. Only thing is, I got distracted, as I often do. I forgot to save the post, and it was scheduled to post at midnight. Imagine my surprise when I saw “I’m going to challenge myself to blog every day for a year” appear on my blog.. in public. Oops. Arrrrrrrgh!!
BOINK! What was I thinking??? There’s no way I can commit to blogging every single day. My plate is heaped high as it is. I have a lot of behind the scene stuff going on that I can’t blog about. I have deals and offers coming at me at a pretty rapid rate. I have to turn down work all the time because there isn’t enough time in the day. I have deadlines to meet, and a life outside of my studio to live. There’s no way I can add the pressure of blogging every day on top of it.
So, I’m going to take it for what it was..a mistake that I tried to correct, but ended up messing up even more. After the 30/30 challenge is over, I’m going to back to my normal blogging schedule, which will be 2 to 5 days a week. I already feel the tension in my shoulders decreasing. Whew.
This is day 27 of the 30/30 challenge.

I’ve been cleaning and straightening up my studio and office all day. Not purging, more like putting finished artwork into plastic bags, and then into boxes for storage to get it off my work table type of cleaning. I have so much more room now to work. Feels like I can breathe again. Ahh.
I also boxed up 5 paintings to ship off to South Carolina for ArtScape. It’s not until the end of October, but I like to get things out of the way. If you’re going to be in the area, be sure to stop by the sale. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend, but my paintings will be there.
It’s day 25 of 30 paintings in 30 days.
