New lower print prices
The past few weeks, I’ve been making some changes and improvements to my Etsy shops. All my print listings have new photos, like you see here today. This has been quite a chore, since I have 600+ print listings, and each one needed 4 new photos. I still have about 100 to do. I’m sure it explains my absence here on my blog. My goal was to make it easier to visualize what my prints might look like hanging over your sofa or in your dining room.
I know you’re never suppose to lower prices on art, and that’s one rule I usually follow. However, this week I made an exception. Print prices have been cut in half in my Art by Katie Jeanne shop. It was a tough decision to make, but I’ve changed from giclee to digital prints to make it more affordable for everyone, including me. Prices now start at $8.00, and go up to $60. Of course, if you prefer giclees, you can write me, and I will set up a listing for you.
I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers.

is this not the cutest?
sunset I saw last week
Maudie and Harold – is this not the cutest? My husband sent it to me. Awww..I missed it. I’ve missed a lot of things lately. :/
Sweet Pea thinks she’s invisible to Maudie. heehee
On hold for Barbara Lee
Not sure what I’m going to do with these inks. I won them in an ebay auction, along with a stack of brand new stencils, which I’m excited to use. The inks, not so exciting to me, but maybe I’ll think of something?
This photo is from last week, too. I haven’t picked up a knife in a few days. I’ve been dealing with a nasty allergic reaction since last Tuesday, and at times, it’s getting the best of me. I’m blaming it on the milo. All I did was roll down the window to take a photo of it, and bam! I’m covered in tiny blistering hives from my scalp to my feet, including down my throat. It’s really kicking my butt. I’m sleeping about 12 hours a night, and have to rest/nap in between.
I’ve been making the most of being sick, tho. Here are a few documentaries that I’ve watched on Netflix that I recommend..
Iris – what a sweet lady. aw! I love her attitude, and her husband is a cutie pie. 🙂
Antarctic Edge – I’m still overly obsessed with Antarctica. I’ve been reading everything I can about it, watching docs, and seeking out photos online. I can’t help myself. It’s so beautiful there. I also do the same thing with Iceland, and Greenland. Anyway, this documentary about Antarctic was a little dry, but I still enjoyed watching it.
This is Life with Lisa Ling – I like everything Lisa does.
Andrew Jenks Room 335 – LOVED it!! Love his work, always!!
The Amish Shunned – I’ve always been fascinated with the Amish. This was a thoughtful documentary, and even though it’s 2 hours long, I highly recommend watching it.
Up next is..
Secrets of Underground London – I wonder if it will remind me of my favorite Neil Gaiman book, Neverwhere? We’ll see.
A sloth named Velcro.. awww! Can’t wait!
Does this mean I will never paint a portrait again?
Varnishing floral paintings
Ah, yes, still. And, it’s Thursday.
Oy. Some weeks, I don’t accomplish much.
But, in my defense, I have added 5 more paintings to the mix, so that’s something.
The one on the bottom left has sold..just giving it a final coat of varnish before shipping it off to Germany.
As soon as I finish here, I will be photographing all of them, and slowly but surely, they’ll be magically appearing in my Etsy shop. I’ll just wave my magic wand, and..plunk! Oh, how I wish it was that easy. It will take me another week or two to get all the photos edited, and listings written. Look for them soonish.
On a different note, I received an email this morning asking where my old videos on Youtube went. I’ve already replied, but I thought I’d answer here, too, in case anyone else notices. Honestly, the email caught me by surprise. I didn’t think anyone watched my YT videos anymore, but this one sweet girl said she misses my videos. I feel terrible to disappoint anyone, but here’s the thing..I don’t feel like my old videos represent my work anymore, so I took them all down last week. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one I’ve been contemplating for over a year now.
When I started Art By Katie Jeanne last year, I knew there would come a day when I would want to concentrate solely on my new work. For some reason, tho, I couldn’t let go of my Miz Katie work just yet. I continued painting a few portraits here and there. I also made art journal videos weekly, which consisted of mostly faces. It seemed like that’s all I posted all summer here on my blog (those posts have been made private now). It was fun, but here’s the thing, I’m scatterbrained, and I need to focus.

Since I’ve added a third online shop to the mix, (for those of you who hate Etsy, you can buy my paintings there, and directly through me here) I’ve realized I’ve got myself spread too thin, and I need to simplify my life. Something had to go, so I made the decision a couple weeks ago to make some changes. I asked myself what my number one priority is right now, and the answer is to grow my Art By Katie Jeanne business. It’s the reason I get up in the morning. A little back story..I started off many years ago as a palette knife painter, and going back to my original roots, and subject matter..well, it’s making me the happiest I’ve been in a loooong time. I’ve always felt that my Miz Katie work was a major detour I made for my mother because she didn’t like the work I was making. She wanted me to be a portrait painter, and I went along with that for a long time, even long after she had passed away. You can’t make art for someone else, and be happy, so I’m finally back where I started. Yes!
Bottom line is if I have to let go of my Miz Katie etsy shop, and everything associated with it (portraits, art journals, videos) to focus on my new/old brand, then that’s what I have to do. I know some of you will be sad about the change because you like my brushwork/portraits better, and I’m sorry for that.

Does this mean I will never paint a portrait again? I’m not going to go that far just yet because the muse has a mind of its own. I might walk into my studio later today, and get the uncontrollable urge to paint a portrait. I’m an intuitive painter, so it happens, and I just go with it. I like flying by the seat of my pants every day.
However, I’m officially no longer accepting portrait commissions, no matter who asks. Sorry!! Also, I won’t be posting portraits, making portrait videos or posting art journal pages (unless it’s relevant) here on my blog any longer. If there are ever any new portrait paintings in the future, they’ll be going straight into my Miz Katie etsy shop, until I make the decision to close it down. Yes, sadly, one day I will be shutting off the light on the entire Miz Katie project. You’ve still got time, tho. As long as it’s still making me money, I’ll keep it open. If it starts going into the red, that’s another story. Last month I had to pay Etsy $380+ in fees between both shops. Yikes! Luckily, I still made a profit, but those freaking fees kill me, man..that’s like food for a month – gone. But, that’s a post for another day. If you have favorited my Miz Katie shop on Etsy, you will see any new work when it’s posted. Same goes for my Art By Katie Jeanne shop, and you’ll be seeing most of those paintings here on my blog, too.
Hope this explains the changes going on around here, and why I’m making them. Now, I’ve got to get back to work, and start photographing those new paintings.
A peek at the weekend: road trip, Coronado castle, Harold and Maude turned 1 year old
It all started off with a birthday celebration Friday night. 🙂
Harold and Maude turned 1 year old.
Birfdays are great. Got new present! Catch The Mouse game/scratching post.
You can see them playing with it in this video..
I was soooo proud of Sweet Pea. I think you can tell by the sound of my voice. 😀
Big Red Fred doesn’t leave the house much these days because he’s getting so old (15), and he’s having health issues (vertigo, and the latest..seizures. it’s not looking good for the old boy. the vet said brain cancer is a possibility), but we did get him out to see a sunset with us Friday night. I think he had a good time. He ran around for a few minutes, almost like he was young again. I don’t know if we’ll ever have this chance again, so I’m glad to have these photos for the memories. I love this big ole guy.
Saturday night sunset
It was hot hot hot all day yesterday. I much prefer a gray, cold day, but I didn’t let it stop me from getting out there, and exploring.
milo or sorghum: so allergic to this stuff :/
soybeans?
sunflowers: a little past their prime
Miles and miles of these beauties.
I wish I had seen them earlier.
Greg and I have been here before, and it was so packed with people yesterday, that we didn’t get out to walk around. We didn’t even stick around to see if this kid made it down the wall. It’s a really cool place, with spectacular views. We’ll be going back again in a couple weeks once the leaves start turning yellow. I’m sure I’ll do an entire post about it then.
Today it’s back to work for me. I’m varnishing these new flower paintings from last week, and listing new paintings on Etsy.
Hope you enjoyed. 🙂

Here are my Would You Rather questions, so you can get to know me better during this 30 in 30 challenge..
1. Would you rather speak in public for 30 minutes be without your car for two days?
I would rather be without my car, unless it was costing me a fortune in repairs. I have a fear of public speaking.
2. Would you rather spend 2 months living in a nursing home or spend a 2 weeks eating only from Taco Bell?
Well, if I could eat it, I’d pick Taco Bell over a nursing home. I did my internship in a nursing home, so I know what it’s like to spend time there.
3. Would you rather be able to play the guitar like a rock star or have anyone in the world willing to take your phone call?
If only it said drums or piano..Hm..I don’t like talking on the phone, so I’d pick guitar, even though it’s not my instrument of choice.

Art is the reason I get up in the morning, but the definition ends there. It doesn’t seem fair that I’m living for something I can’t even define. -Ani DiFranco
Here are my Would You Rather questions, so you can get to know me better during this 30 in 30 challenge..
1. Would you rather have someone bring you breakfast in bed tomorrow morning or be able to sleep in as late as you want?
Sleep in. It takes me an hour or so to be hungry in the morning.
2. Would you rather receive a lifetime supply of meals from your favorite restaurant or a lifetime supply of gasoline?
I can’t eat out in restaurants because I have a wide range of food allergies, so I’ll have to take the gasoline.
3. Would you rather be able to see one year into the future or change any one decision from your past?
I would change one decision from my past. Nothing big, but something I regret not doing now. I was asked to be a model for Mary Kay cosmetics, and I turned down the offer. I really wish I had done it now.
