Since the temperature here has been hovering around 100F nearly every day, I’ve been itching to start painting with oils again, like I have most every summer for years now. Acrylics dry out too fast on my palette this time of year, so I appreciate the slow drying time of oil paints.
I ordered some imperfect tubes of oil paint from the Gamblin site last week, and it arrived yesterday. I thought I’d do a little unboxing post for you today, so you can see the condition of the paint tubes. Buying something marked “imperfect” can be a little intimidating, but I trusted Gamblin to not disappoint, and they sure didn’t.
First off, the box it came in was high quality, and the paint was professionally packaged. I’m always so grateful when I get a package like this in the mail because it signals to me how much a company cares about their product.
A little off topic, but I ordered some organic peanut butter in glass jars online a couple weeks ago, and it was so poorly packaged the jars were smashed to smithereens in transit. I’m not going to say where it came from, but they didn’t even bother to put bubble wrap around the jars. Just stuck it in a box without putting any effort or care into it. Oh, man..what a disappointment that was. I got my money back, but all I could think was what a shame..all that peanut butter wasted. :/
So, yes, I definitely appreciate a well packaged box, and Gamblin didn’t disappoint.
As you can see the tubes aren’t perfect, but as it says on their website, the paint inside is perfect. Well, it might not say those exact words because they don’t like to brag, but I’m saying it because it’s true.
As you can see, the tubes have a couple crinkles here and there, but most of my paint tubes look like this (or far worse) after a couple days from banging against one another in my drawer, anyway. I don’t care what the outside looks like, it’s what’s inside that counts.
It might be hard to tell from the photos, but these are huge 150 ml tubes. I feel like I stole them for the low price I paid..only $42, plus shipping. !!!
Next week, I’m going to be writing more about the paint itself, and show you the portraits I’ve created. I’ve been having a lot of fun with these so far. I have a feeling I might not leave the studio for the next few weeks now. lol All in all, I’m extremely happy with my order, and will definitely order more colors soon.
Hope you’re having an awesome weekend. xo
