During the winter retreat, I usually did these pages at around 11pm, after all was said and done for the day. Or, if I was too tired (meditating for about 3 hrs a day can be exhausting lol), I completed the page early the next morning. It was a great way to reflect back over what I had learned each day.
I choose to use abstract to communicate what I was thinking and feeling, and I’m so glad I did. It was the easiest way for me to get to the root of what was going on within my mind at the time.
Although I was participating in 3 winter retreats at the same time, I only made this book about a particular retreat because it was so powerful to me. The focus of the retreat was to send metta every day when we meditated in each of our 3 sessions.
When you do the right thing,
you get the feeling of peace and serenity
associated with it.
Do it again and again.
If you’re not familiar with the word metta, it means that you send love & kindness out into the world to all beings. You start with those easiest to love, and you move on to the most difficult. It’s quite a powerful exercise that opens your heart up wide.
I usually include metta in my daily meditation practice, but it’s not my entire focus. To have had 10 whole days dedicated to sending metta for hours each day, and sharing that space in time with hundreds of other like minded people was pretty darn amazzzzzing. I can’t help but think, what if everyone in the world did this every single day? How much better off we’d all be?
Peace comes from within.
Do not seek it without.
During my sitting meditations, I kept seeing myself as a twinkle fairy sprinkling glitter from my magic wand on to everyone’s head and sometimes rooftops. <– didn’t want to invade anyone’s privacy. heehee
It was quite a magical way to spend 10 days, and now I have glitter all through my house. Everywhere I look, I see it, and it’s a great reminder to send a little love out there in the world. It sure could use it.
Since this is so image heavy, I’m breaking it into two blog posts. Stay tuned to see the rest.
