chickadee in my art journal painted with palette knives
gray, white and pink palette
I’m taking a break from painting portraits, and I’m exploring some new waters, both in subject matter and style. I ordered a set of 12 palette knives, and I’m going to spend a few months playing with the different sizes and shapes. I’ve had a 5 piece set for many years, and have used them almost daily in my art journals, but I haven’t done a lot of work on canvas with them.
Yesterday I painted still life, tomatoes from my husband’s garden, which made me feel exhausted by the end of the day, and not all that accomplished. I was close to tears. Do you know how hard it is to paint weird shaped circles? Seriously hard. I wiped 2 oil paintings because I didn’t like them, and painted over 3 acrylics. That’s what happens when you try something new. The results, at first, make you want to cry, and you question your artistic ability. You want to throw in the towel, and give up. I shan’t. I did take a good long break from it, tho, and went to bed very early last night.
The day I painted the chickadees and flowers that you’re seeing here, I felt on top of the world. I was getting the exact results that I wanted to get, and I was very happy. Then along came yesterday, and well..it kinda burst my bubble, but you know what? I’m not going to let it get me down. I’m back with fresh eyes this morning, ready to begin again.
Happy Saturday, and a happy PPF to ya. I’m a late party goer because I complete forgot. Oops!!
