New Golden light yellow
tub full of paint
Yellow isn’t a color I reach for often, but this gigantic jug was generously sent to me from Golden. I’m very grateful.
Floral painting

I’ve been working on this painting on and off for almost a year now. I keep thinking it’s finished, but first I need to add a little..something. I have no idea what, tho.
I love this series, but I’ve decided I’m stopping at 10 – for now anyway. I might come back to it at some point, and go for 20..maybe even 100? 1000? That’s the wonderful thing about working in series, you can decide to abandon them, and come back any time you like. Right now I’m feeling a pull in a different direction.
Acrylic portrait painting
Cardboard art
WIP
Despite what I said last week about not being able to get into painting portraits, and even going as far as shutting down my portrait painting series last year, I now have to eat crow. The portrait painting bug has bitten me once again, and I have no plans to resist. haha! Uh oh! It’s true! I’m mesmerized, completely under its spell. I never know how long these magical “in the zone” type spells are going to last, so I’m taking advantage of it while it’s here.
Hard pastels
I’m weirdly being pulled in a sketching/drawing direction lately, also. I’m painter. I don’t even like drawing, but I’ve been wanting to draw lately. Maybe even start a sketch book??? Idk? Beats me.
Honestly? I give up trying to figure out this thing called “being an artist”. Gawd knows I analyze it enough constantly. I’m just gonna go with the flow, and see what happens. Maybe this portrait painting & drawing stage will pass quickly or maybe it will stick around? I haven’t a clue. I’m going to blame it on watching too many BlackBean videos. heehee Omgosh..I know I’ve linked to him a few times before, but I seriously can’t get enough of his art..or his humor. I absolutely adore him.
Spring is far more than a changing of seasons: it’s a rebirth of the spirit.

I’m definitely feel a change in the air within my studio, so we’ll see what happens as time marches swiftly on.

Articles I’ve been reading:
Memorial for witches – long read which made me cringe at times, but definitely worth the time.
Why Would Two Ordinary People Steal a $160 Million Willem de Kooning Painting?
Digging Up the Rich Viking History of Britain
Books I’ve been reading:
I got Austen Kleon’s Steal Like An Artist audio trilogy from my library app last week, and finished it in less than two days. I own his book Steal Like An Artist, and it’s good, but I must say the audio version was better, imo.
Still listening to Malcolm Gladwell’s box set of three books – The Tipping Point, Blink, and Outliers. I kinda forgot about these books for a couple weeks. I recently renewed it for the third time, and I’m back to listening to it while I paint. It’s interesting, but I’m not finding it all that relatable. I’m still trying to get through The Tipping Point, and so I can move on to Blink, which I think I’ll enjoy more.
Also listening to Nudge – haven’t really plunged deeply into this one yet, but so far it seems more relatable, and humorous.
