I created this harpy bird painting a few months ago, but never got around to posting it here on my blog.
This painting will come to you unframed.
These next few photos show what it might look like framed,
but aren’t true to size.
Sooo, what’s going on in my studio this week? Well, for months on end, I’ve mostly been working small – 4×6 to 5×7 inches. Two weeks ago, I went even smaller – 3×4 inch portraits, which I’m still working on getting listed. After creating about 20 3x4s over several nights, I felt a bit burnt out, and in need of a change of pace. So, I recently started working on some larger 11×14 inch oil pastel portraits.
I have a stack of 11×14 inch canvas board that I bought to do a commissioned piece, and have only used one of them. I’ve been enjoying working small for numerous reasons – shipping is easy & cheaper, my smaller paintings are more affordable for those on a budget, plus they don’t take up a lot of space on my work table or in storage.
I must say, there’s quite a difference going from 3×4 to 11×14 inches, but I absolutely love seeing my art so big & bold. I think it’s also easier to use oil pastels when creating larger because the pastels I use are pretty chunky in size. It makes getting into tight spots with them difficult (especially the eyes). Even though I had planned on sticking with small sizes going forward, I’m already thinking of purchasing more 11×14 inch canvas boards once I get through this stack. We’ll see.
I can’t wait to get back to drawing later tonight. I’ll be sharing the new portrait paintings with you soon, so stay tuned.
I hope you have a happy, creative Monday.
