I’ve always deeply admired most abstract painters. I say “most” because it’s easy to spot abstract artists who are doing the same thing over and over again without any thought, imagination or effort. If you see one of their paintings, you’ve basically seen them all. I prefer seeing a variety when looking at a body of abstract work.
The abstract work I admire most makes me wonder what the artist was thinking & feeling while they were painting. Were they happy, sad, indifferent, feeling energetic? Were they passionately struggling with the piece or were they in that magical creative zone when the painting seems to paint itself? Are they as happy with the outcome, as I am looking at it? This is the kind of art I admire greatly. It makes me want to stare at it, and let my mind and imagination wander.
