I painted this portrait back in 2014, and it’s been sitting in my “needs to be revised” painting pile for ages. At first I thought I was only going to change her “what stinks in here” facial expression. I thought her mouth was too close to her nose, and needed to be moved down, also.
As I kept painting I realized how much the woman looked like a recent painting I sold, It’s a Man’s World. I’ve been wanting to paint that portrait again because there was a lot of interest in it on Etsy and Ebay. Only one lucky person owns it now, and some people don’t like prints.
So, I decided to change this portrait into one that looks similar to It’s a Man’s World, since it already had some of the same features.
This is where I left off. I decided to give her a face lift – new lips, nose and eyes. I added polka dots to her collar, which wasn’t in the first portrait. I don’t want this one to be an exact copy, and I think the polka dots add to the portrait. Her tie is also different because I think her last one was made with some scrap of paper I had lying around.
I absolutely love the midtone shade I mixed the other day..it’s what I blocked her eyes out with. I don’t know how I’ve lived without it in my life up to now. I just need to remember how I mixed it, so I can make more. It looks a bit like Titan Buff, only slightly dark. I think I used yellow ochre, a tad bit of dark green & burnt umber, and white, but I’m not exactly sure. Will have to play around and see.
Hope you have a lovely Friday.
