I’m not going to lie. January was a trying month. There’s a strange flu bug thing going around this year. I got sick, and then got better. Then I got sick again, then better, then flat out dreadfully S I C K, then progressively better for 4 days straight. Then, along came yesterday, when I woke up sick again. It was rather discouraging, and a bit depressing, but somehow today, I’m better. Go figure, right? I feel like I’ve been tossed around like a yoyo.

I was finally going to leave the house for the first time in a week on Wednesday, but my car battery was dead. Dead as a doornail dead. Did I also say our dryer died, and had to be replaced? One step forward, and two backwards has been what January’s been about. So, in some ways it was a looong month, but at the same time, I can’t believe the 30 in 30 challenge is over. Whew! Just when I thought it would never end, it’s now history. Despite everything, I stuck with it, and finished all 30 paintings. 

Hello, February. I sure hope you’re kinder to me than January. I’m going to be doing something different this month, a different challenge. Stay tuned to see what’s coming around the bend.

Remember when I told you my husband was building me shelves for my oil paintings? I now have them throughout my studio, office, and shipping room. Some of them are huge, like 7 feet long. !! I’ll show you more photos later. For now, I’ll just say, I’m beyond thrilled. I no longer have to use precious work table space to dry oil paintings..which can take about a month, since I don’t like using the quick drying mediums. I found the medium to be very yellowing, completely changing the color of my paint as it dried. It also made my oil paint feel rubbery. Maybe I did it wrong? Or maybe it was the brand I used? Have you had good experience with it?

The best thing about my floral paintings is they last forever. There will be no wilting, no sagging in the vase, no browning of leaves, no dying, and no watering needed. Also for allergy suffers like me, no sneezing or itchy watery eyes. This is the most excellent news!!

Day 23 of 30 in 30. 

I got thinking about it the other day, and I’ve had Netflix for at least ten years now. I was quick to jump on the bandwagon when it first launched. I was living out in the middle of nowhere in a milo field, and getting DVDs in the mail was so convenient. I didn’t have to drive into the city, and find a Blockbuster. And, then came streaming. Laaaaa!! One of the happiest days of my life. 🙂 

Over time, I’ve become one of those people who must always be in the middle of a series. Ever since I abruptly pulled the plug on Californication, and gave it one star (Season 1 was so good. What happened??? Ew!!), I’ve been looking for something to watch, which is not as easy as it sounds. I spent a lot of time just looking. I tried Madmen, but I was soooo bored, I couldn’t even get through the first few episodes. I kept falling asleep. I’m not sure how it got to be such a hit, it moves very s l o w l y.  

So, I was in limbo for a few weeks, until I remembered an old favorite, Desperate Housewives. I watch a season or two when it was on tv, but then I moved halfway across the country, and didn’t have cable for a while. Now, I’m about 3/4 the way through season 3 now, and I’m hooked! Completely obsessed! 

If you’re wondering where I’m watching it now that Netflix has dropped the show, I have HuluPlus. I tolerate ads for this show, and I HATE ads. It’s worth it, tho.

I’ve been feeling under the weather for a couple weeks now, pretty much since the challenge started. I don’t have a cold or the flu, exactly, although at times I think I’m coming down with something. It’s more like I’m tired, run down, and feeling blah. So, I’ve been struggling to find something to add here below the painting, but I keep coming up short. Sometimes, it’s better not to force things. Tomorrow will be another day.

I don’t paint many 5x7s. When I was painting portraits, it felt like an awkward size to fit a face, but things have changed. I no longer paint portraits, so I bought 100 5x7s a couple weeks ago. I was thinking because of the length, florals will fit better on 5x7s, rather than on the 4x4s. The first thing I ended up painting was a bird, tho. That’s always the way it goes..the muse is the one in charge, never me. This little goldfinch was calling out to me to be painted, and so I had no other choice, I obeyed.
