You might recognize the top half of this painting. I originally painted it a couple years ago. There was something about the bottom half that really bugged me, tho. It used to be sorta red, and I don’t know. It wasn’t doing anything for me, so it had to go. In its place, a pretty sandy beach. Much more pleasing to the eye, imo. 

At the end of the day, I’ll officially be on vacation. It’s the first one I’ve taken in years, and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it. I’ll be without internet access pretty much the entire time. Don’t worry, I worked extra hard last week, and I’ve scheduled enough blog posts until I get back. You won’t even miss me. See you in a week. 🙂

This little spot is not far from my house, out on a dirt road. It’s just past the tall corn I wrote about the other day. If I could, I’d build a house right here, and enjoy this view every day.

30 paintings in 30 days – September 2014

I’m sorry to see September end. It’s one of my favorite months out of the year, and it passed so quickly. It was a challenging, yet productive month.

Here’s a little recap:

1. I took my art in a direction I’ve wanted to go for a long time. I now have four new series, flowers, birds, landscapes and abstracts painted with palette knives. These will be ongoing series. 
2. I opened up a brand new Etsy shop for my palette knife paintings.
3. I was contacted by an art licensing company, and I became a licensed artist. My new work will soon be available worldwide and online in many different shops!!! I’m beyond thrilled. 
4. I started and completed 30 paintings in 30 days.

About: This painting has a feeling of isolation. Being alone with a bird with nothing but gray skies, and land. The colors are muted in this one. I wanted it to feel cold, like winter; yet, warm to the heart because of the close relationship you see between the girl and bird.

Whew! I’ve been busy. It never seems like I’m working all that hard, as the days are flying past, but these monthly recaps tell me that I’ve been working my fingers to the bone. Here’s to a new month! Happy April!

Today marks the 4th year my mother isn’t here to celebrate her birthday. It’s hard to know what to do on days like this. How to pass the time? I will probably bake a cake. I usually do. It’s sorta a new tradition now. Instead of being sad that she’s not here, I try to celebrate her life, and be happy for everything she gave me. Eating birthday cake, and being thankful sure beats sitting around being sad. Yeah?

Happy Birthday, Mom. I love you. xo

ps: if you substitute unsweetened applesauce for the eggs or butter, it makes the recipe lower calorie, and healthier. I never use eggs when baking something sweet.
