I can’t seem to get it together this week. I took last Friday, Saturday and Sunday off from the studio, and now it’s hard to get back into the swing of things. I’ve been struggling, not feeling on top of my game. Feeling kinda sluggish, tired, and uninspired. It happens. As much as I love painting, it’s still work, and I’m human. I crave downtime. Three days didn’t seem enough, tho. Luckily, Greg and I are planning a short getaway in the fall, so there’s a light at the end of tunnel. We’ll be going somewhere we’ve never been before, so I’m really excited. I only wish it was sooner because I could use the break now.
Bird oil paintings
I’ve been working on a few paintings that I can’t show, which makes it difficult to have anything to post here. Then I remembered, I have a bunch of oil paintings from last month that haven’t seen the light of day yet. Oh, yeah! It’s easy to forget the oils paintings because of the long drying time. I don’t like to be too eager, and have one sell before it’s ready to ship.
I painted these birds with a palette knife in oils. I really enjoy working with palette knives, so there will be more of these, probably lots more.

Did you see that Leslie Saeta is having another 30 paintings in 30 days challenge in September? It will be the third time I’m participating. The first time I did a Photo booth series, working loosely from reference images I found online. The second time, I chose not to have a theme, and flew by the seat of my pants. I posted whatever I felt like doing that day, which was fun, and freeing. There were days when I had no idea what I was going to post, tho. It was a bit unnerving.
This time around I think I’m going to be more focused, and continue where I left off last month with the bird series. I would love to have 30 bird paintings finished by the end of September. I’ve started collecting images for reference, so it will be fun. I’m going to prep all 30 canvas ahead of time, and be ready. Can’t wait!
It’s a lovely rainy day today, only 65F, which is sooooo not normal for this time of year. Hard to believe it was 110F last week. I feel like I’m dreaming. Please, don’t wake me. Shh.
