I don’t know about other artists, but I like to work in batches when I’m creating – same size, and same subject matter. I used to jump from size to size, and was all over the place. One minute I was painting flowers, and the next an abstract, then a bird. It was exhausting, but at the time, I liked the chaos, and feel of busyness.
Looking back now, it wasn’t an efficient way to work. At one point I remember having 40 some paintings at different stages of completion that I was working on. I could never do that now. So overwhelming!
It’s difficult to be your own boss, and it’s taken me many years to figure it out. Not that I’m perfect now, but work life has been more enjoyable for sure. Working at an even pace, and staying focused works best for me. Thank you, word of the year 2022!! It taught me to reign it in, and be more consistent, which is why it’s also my word this year.
Happy Thoughts

I usually set 5 to 10 pieces of substrate (in this case cardboard) aside to work on for the week (or however long – I don’t keep track of my time involved), and the rest stay locked away out of my sight. If I look at huge stacks of empty canvas of all different sizes, I get a bit overwhelmed. My brain immediately freaks out – I’m going to have to do allllll that work????!!!! How????
A River of Stillness Runs Through Her

When I have a set amount of canvas, I don’t get distracted, and I only have to think about what’s directly in front of me at the table each time I sit down to create. It’s easy to pick up where I left off each night, and then I keep working until I finish the stack. No more having unfinished paintings sitting around everywhere, taking up space on my work tables, and in my head.
Exhausted
Available here
After I’ve finished a stack, I usually take a few nights off to recharge my creative battery. During my downtime, I play in my sketch books & art journals, and gather ideas to make more paintings in the future. Some or most of my paintings have come from ideas in my art journals lately.
I think I made the painting above towards the tail end of this recent batch, and I was pretty faded at the time. I think it was 1 in the morning or something. Zzzzzzzz
Uniquely Their Own

Being focused not only makes it easier on the creative end, but it makes listing them a breeze. I can use the copy button, and all I have to do is change the title and some of the wording on each one.
The Philosopher
