Happy 4th of July, y’all! I’ve never done a painting with a 4th theme before (that I remember), so I thought this is the year to change that. I kept the holiday in mind right through to the title. What I’ve been reading lately: 

Make two lists – I’ve done this exercise in my head, but I’m going to sit down and make the lists on paper very soon. 

How to keep going – “We didn’t choose this because it’s easy. We chose it because it’s who we are.” (ain’t that the truth!)

Top 10 Documentaries Every Art Lover Should Watch – I’ve seen most of these, and especially loved Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child. It used to be on Netflix, years ago, but now you can find it on Youtube.

This wintry vision I have in my head comes from a vivid memory I have of my Mom, and how she would tell me to stand outside in the snow with a tiny piece of bread on my hand. She said if I was quiet and still enough, a bird would land on me, and I would get to feed him. aw! How I wanted that to happen!! This is the 14th time I’ve painted this painting, but it’s the first time I’ve ever painted it this large. I usually paint these on either 8×10 or 9×12 canvas. It seems that every time I paint it, my vision/memory changes slightly. The last few I’ve painted, the girls have insisted on wearing party dresses, and I have no idea why. I just do what they tell me to do.
