I grew up thinking I was Irish. I remember asking Mom when I was a kid, “what are we anyway?”, and she said she thought we were probably Irish because of all the red hair in our family, including my own when I was a baby. Well, I was born with black hair, just like my Mom and grandfather, but it quickly changed to orange, just like my grandmother, aunts, and uncles. It has unfortunately changed to a mousy brown since then. :/ Hardly any red to be seen, unless I’m standing in the sun. Still, I was Irish proud.
It wasn’t until after my mother’s death, 6 years ago, that I found the correct answer hidden in her personal belongings. Someone was, at one time, attempting to write a book about my family. I have a copy of the rough draft, which was an interesting read. I’m not sure if the book was ever published, but the author (I think he is a distant relative??) was in touch with my mother before her passing. He had given her a copy of our family tree. I had never seen it. Imagine my surprise to find out my ancestors were from England, not Ireland. St Patrick’s day hasn’t been the same since then. haha 😉 Oh, what the heck, I’ll celebrate along with everyone..Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! 😀
New bird paintings are being listed everyday in my Etsy shop.
