New chalk paint
I’ve never bought or painted with chalk paint before, but I thought it would be fun to experiment with it. This paint is actually meant for painting furniture, but I wanted it to paint portraits.
Of course, I could never paint portraits without my favorite color pink, so I also bought these two separately. Can’t ever have enough white.
I also got a new blank book
to use for my art journal,
which is 9×9 inches.
I’ve been going through a transition with my art lately, and I’m all about trying new things. I couldn’t remember the last time I used a square art journal, so I figured why not?
I’ve also had a hankering for painting larger for a while now (I might paint a wall mural soon, which is soooo unlike me to even consider it), and I found this book for only $4. It’s marketed for kids, so the paper is cheap & thin, only slightly thicker than copy paper. It warps and curls up so beautifully along the edges as the paint dries. It’s absolutely perfect!
Big ears seems to be a reoccurring theme for me lately. I have no idea why, other than it’s fun to overly exaggerate, and take things to an extreme just because I can, so I did.
You might have noticed that I’ve been experimenting using bigger brushes in my work the past couple months. These two brushes came with the chalk paint set. I know…I’m supposed to paint furniture with them, but instead I’m painting eye balls, noses, and big hair.
Think outside the box,
collapse the box,
and take a f**king sharp knife to it.
Banksy
I adore how her hair came out,
and now I want to experiment
with even larger brushes.
I loved working with this larger square size so much that I purchased 100 sheets of 8×8 inch watercolor paper. I’ve started to work on a new mixed media portrait series, which I’ll be focusing on throughout the fall & winter months. I’m still trying to come up with a title for the series, and work out some kinks..like, where I’ll offer them for sale. I’ll let you know when I get it all figured out.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’re having a lovely weekend.
