progress shots
Something seemed a little off to me about this portrait, so it was time to change the way I was viewing it. I paint portraits upside down when I’m trying to see better, and when I want to get the painting to look more like the reference photo. I don’t turn the reference photo upside down, only the painting. From this angle, I can see if the chin, nose, and lips are out of alignment. I was able to see that I needed to adjust the width of her neck, and that her nose was a bit off.
I widened her chin slightly,
and worked on her eyes.
Still needs work.
I could easily spend days or weeks
on this painting, but
I don’t want to fuss with this series
and drive myself bonkers.
I want to keep it loose,
and more naive or painterly.
