The first layer is always ugly, isn’t it? Well, maybe not always, but for me, usually. My idea was to again just get some color down as fast as possible without thinking or giving a care how it looks. This was 5 minutes of pure mark making with a bit of collage thrown in. This stage might be the ugliest, but it’s the most fun to me. I go in with chalk or pastel in both hands, and get ‘er done. I’m not at all concerned with how it looks at this point because very little of this will actually show through by the time I get to the last layer. All I care about at this stage is getting down the first layer, so I can make another layer tomorrow. 

Today I listened to M83 Midnight City while I painted. Should have picked a song with more of a beat for this part of the painting, but oh well.

I revised this painting a few days ago. It’s similar to one I posted last week, but this one is more pink. The other one is more red. This pink version is available for purchase here.
