I like to have a loose theme in mind for each of my art journals. I’ve recently become obsessed with listening to music again after a long dry spell, so I figured why not combine music with my journal. 

I’m not sure if I’ll carry this theme through the entire book (it’s a thick one) but for now it’s summer, and we’re starting to hit triple digits. I just wanna sit in my room, crank the ac & music, and make art. 

I searched Youtube for “songs with lyrics” so I could incorporate the words into my pages. The first song I choose was Happy by NF. 

Love Like This

I’m not painting the people in the music videos, but this guy sorta looks like Brabo. I listened to the songs twice while I painted, so each page only took roughly 5 to 6 minutes (kinda like the timed art journal drawings I’ve been doing). Then I’d flip the page, and was on to the next song. Sometimes, I let Youtube autoplay songs for me, and other times I choose the songs.

It kinda feels weird looking at the pages now on my screen. Without the songs playing, I’m not sure the art translates well. Right now, the room is quiet, except for the sound of fans blowing, and the moment has long passed. But, at the time, I was wearing airpods, the music was loud, and all consuming – leading my way through each painting. I was realllly into it. If you ever want to make art fully in the moment, this is a great exercise.

This page is my fave so far. It took longer because of all the flowers. I think I listened to the song 3 or 4 times, but I didn’t mind. 🥰
