Be Sure to Lock the Door and Turn Off All The Lights
It’s that time of year when the temperature soars over 100F for days on end. Those who don’t do well in the heat go inside, and they don’t come out until October when it finally passes. The seasons change us all, don’t you think?
This Moment
Set Yourself Free
I figure it’s a perfect time to take a break. I do still have a couple oil portraits I need to finish up, when I get around to it. I need time to play, think, feel, meditate, write in my paper journals, read books, and relax. It’s time for a summer reset. I don’t want to paint anymore for my online shops or my business. I want to paint for me.
I think any artist will agree, there is quite a huge difference between painting for others, and painting strictly for yourself. I learned long ago that it takes a certain mindset to sell artwork. You can’t get too attached or it gets painful when a favorite sells.
I approach a blank canvas knowing it’s not mine to keep. I immediately feel detached from the work because I know I’ll be selling it. I never own any of my work, not even from the start.
Scrubbed Away the Film of Dust
Why have I dedicated my entire life to art?
I’m excited for this break, and have been looking forward to it for months. I hope you’ll like the change in pace.
I have no idea when I’ll post next. I might be back in 5 minutes (because I still have a shit load of work to show you..so so good to be excited about my work again) or it might be 5 days from now (because I might wander off and get lost in a sea of paint, pastels, chalk, and markers).
ps: none of the originals are for sale at this time. Prints can be made to order on some, but not all the pieces. If there’s a link under the image, the option to purchase a print is there.
