Fresh off the easel are these new acrylic abstract mini paintings. Most of my artwork is vibrant, so I wanted to mute the color on this series. I’ve been wanting to do a black and white series forever..like at least 2 years, maybe three? I have no idea what took me so long. I guess I’ve been afraid of not using color. Like, what can you really do with just black and white?
The funny thing is when I picked up the palette knife, I had nooo idea what I was going to do with it, but it all came together quickly. Once I started, I couldn’t stop.
I was thinking of stark, white, grey, snow, ice, winter. And huge snow banks that I haven’t seen for nearly 14 years. When I moved to Kansas in March 1999, there was snow piled well over my head in Maine. Here, there was bright green grass (which I found out later is actually winter wheat), and it was 85F in March.
I also kept in mind what the ocean must look like in the winter on the east coast, as I made these. It’s been a long long time since I’ve seen the ocean.
Keep an eye on my Etsy shop if you’re interested in this new series. I started listing them two days ago, and within minutes, one was in a new treasury by Lesglass. Yesterday, another treasury made by Budpnq, so I’m thinking this is going to be a popular series.
I also have some 6x6s that I’ll be listing over the next few weeks.
